The Materials I use for Repaintings by MySweetQueen-Dolls The Materials I use for Repaintings by MySweetQueen-Dolls

This may be boring for some of you, but I'm really proud of having all this finally, specially the thinner, gloss and pearl ex powder that arrived last monday :D this is like a treasure for me, it was really hard to find some of these materials.
Also, showing you the materials I use could be helpful if you want to start repainting dolls and you don't know what you need for example.

1: Chalk Pastels: I use them for the blushing and shadding effects: cheeks, eyes and lips
2: Watercolor Pencils: I use them to make defined lines: draw eyes and lips comisures
3: Brushes and Eraser: I use them to paint the dolls faces, and the erased with pencil shape is really useful to remove little mistakes
4: Nail Polish Remover (Acetone): I use it to remove the factory makeup of the monster high dolls (don't use with BJDs, it can ruin the resin)
5: Thinner: I use it to remove the BJD makeups (don't use with plastic dolls, it can ruin the plastic)
6: Cotton disks: I use them to clean the doll faces. Little sponges work better, but I don't have them yet
7: Gloss: I use it just to make the doll lips look juicy and shiny
8: Sealant: I use it for protect the final makeup
9: Pigments: I use them as face glitter and as a shiny extra for the makeup

One question!... when you use the chalk pastels, do you use them before you paint the whole eye, and lips?, or you add the pastel blushing effects at the end of the process?... how do you seal them?, since pastels is powder condesed, i guess if you add a liquid sealer, you will remove all the pastel effects!.. or do you use a sealer in spray?

when I just started I used them as first thing, but I noticed I was removing them while I paint the eyes and such, so now I use them to finish
I sea them using Citadel Purity Seal (and yep, it's a spray :) )

Thanks for sharing this and all your pictures with us! I can't tell you how many times I didn't buy a doll just because the face wasn't right, even if I loved everything else about it. Thanks to you, I now know how to get the doll I want.

I've saw that for Nail Polish Remover, it doesn't come off very well and it smudges.

it always smudges at first, MH dolls come with a lot of factory paint, but you have to keep cleaning their face until you don't see any stain

Oh, interesting. My mom says she has acetone :D So.. that'll help! And I'm going to have my sister's help (who loves to paint but has never painted a doll) so I'm not alone in this experience! xD Good, right? Watched a tutorial that was very helpful and I found a reroot tutorial and a how to make your own wig one, etc.

I'm itching to do it, my sister get's here Wednesday-Sunday not sure when she'll want to do it, or if she will. :P

Wow.... if I used paint in a Repaint on a Monster high doll, will it turn out good?

it depends of what kind of paint you use, it always looks weird the first tries but it gets better with time

I think that's acrylic, but it sounds like too strong for monster high.
You should use soft materials like pastels and watercolor pencils

A girl I know does Acrylic paint on Monster High dolls, and they turn out fine...
Pastels? Wont that just rub off?

hmm well I think it could work, I never used them so I don't know
no, and in the rare case it happens you can use sealant

Hey!

you must have patience, doll faces aren't like paper so the paint doesn't "act" the same on them
you should use a sealant before painting so it would be easier to the paint to stick
